2006 Team Penning/Sorting Photo Collection CD
The 2006 Team Penning/Sorting Photo Collection CD is now available for purchase. This CD contains over 1,300 photos taken by Don White and Helen White at Team Penning and Sorting events at Ottawa, Lombardy Fair, Homac Acres (near Codrington), Perth Fair and Carp Fair. The CD is browsable using you favourite Web Browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, Seamonkey, Opera, etc.) The images are of reduced resolution but it is possible to produce acceptable prints up to 4x6 or 5x7. Matted and Framed Prints
Framed matted prints are available. Prices dependent upon the style of frame. The least expensive frame (simple black wood) is $20. Call or email for more information
Glossy Prints, Dye-Based Inks ($12.00)
Photos printed on high gloss paper using dye-based Epson inks are available in 8-1/2x11 at a price of $12 including shipping and handling. Because these prints are made with dye-based inks there is no guarantee on the longevity of the print. However, if they are matted and mounted under glass or alternativley, stored in a book where there is limited exposure to bright sunlight and air-borne pollutants they can be expected to last for many years without fading.
Original Digital File (as many prints as you want)
Up to five original digital files plus one cropped and edited version of each file is available on CD for $50.00 plus $5.00 shipping and handling.
Technical Data
All images are captured with either a Sony CyberShot DSC-F828 digital camera (8 megapixels) or a Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 digital camera (10.8 megapixels).
Editing of the images is carried out using various software packages (Digikam, GIMP, Imagemagick) on a system running openSUSE Linux. Proofing of photos is done on an Epson RX500 printer.
Final photos are printed on an Epson R1800 Printer using 8-color Epson UltraChrome Hi-Gloss® pigment inkset for archival-quality glossy and matte photos. This printer's 8-color individual ink system, which incorporates red and blue inks, gives a wider color gamut for incredibly vivid photos. Its separate matte and photo black ink cartridges give the deepest, darkest blacks on matte or glossy paper. The unique gloss optimizer makes glossy prints look like they came from a traditional photo lab. Since the inks are pigment-based, you can be confident the color and detail will remain true for many, many years.
Glossy prints are made on Epson Glossy Photo Paper, Kodak High Gloss Premium Photo Paper or Kirkland Professional Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper. Matte finish prints are made on Epson Matte Paper Heavyweight, Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper or Ilford Galerie Smooth Fine Art Paper.
Print Longevity
As with all photographs, either film-based or digital, print longevity is dependent upon environmental, storage and viewing conditions. To ensure a long life for your photos the following guidelines are suggested:
- The lower the ambient lighting level of your room, the longer your print will last.
- A print in a moderately-lit room will last much longer than one in a brightly lit room. Do not display your print in direct sunlight - exposure to direct sunlight is the surest way to fade it.
- Avoid displaying your print in areas of high heat or humidity.
- A cool, dry room is better than a hot one with loads of humidity in the air. An air-conditioned room is obviously best.
- Avoid displaying your print in a room where the air is polluted.
- Prolonged exposure to cigarette smoke, cooking fumes, pesticide sprays and other airborne contaminants will reduce the life of your print.
- Display unframed prints in a photo album.
- Prints stored in photo albums usually will have improved print life over a print displayed on a table or on the refrigerator. Photos in albums are often exposed less to ozone, humidity, and light, but some fade can take place over time due to the long term effects of heat.
